In Science this week, the Year 2 children were very excited by the visit of Miss Lowry, the Head of Secondary Science, who came to talk to the children about microbes and germs. She set up an investigation to collect microbes from different places around the classroom and explained to the children that these tiny organisms are invisible to the eye. The children used cotton buds to swab things such as; pencils, door handles, shoes, windows and carpets. They then wiped these swabs onto a special microbe dish.
Miss Lowry also demonstrated to the children how to wash their hands properly and the importance of washing thoroughly to ensure that your hands are germ free.
Next week, the children will continue this investigation when they go up to the Secondary Science laboratories to see what has happened to their microbe dish.
