International Schools Junior Golf Championship 2012

The annual International Schools Junior Golf Championship was hosted by Bromsgrove at the President Country Club on 5 February 2012.

It is the 6th year that Bromsgrove International School Thailand (B.I.S.T) has hosted the International Schools Junior Golf Tournament. The event is a scratch competition and prizes are awarded for each Class of competitors from A to D in both Girls and Boys. There is also a team prize for the best score taken from their best 3 gross scores. 99 competitors from 15 International Schools took part this year with the standard from the top golfers world class!

The overall best score of the day was from Pearl a 12 year old girl from Harrow International School with a superb 69 , 3under par. The team prize is always a very closely contested event and this year proved to be no different. The eventual winners were The American School of Bangkok (A.S.B) with team members Meaw, Loma and New with a total of 213. Rumrudee (R.I.S) was Runner Up with team members Pear, Nat and Pom with a total of 215. Third were the holders and hosts of the competition Bromsgrove International School (B.I.S.T). The team members, Bright, Cherry and Shamu, all returned a gross 73 for the total of 222.

The event was supported by many parents and coaches who witnessed the superb golf. The competition also received support from many sponsors which was tremendously generous and very much appreciated by all the competitors. The donations made by Bromsgrove students, parents and staff, were officially handed over to the Office of the Private Education Commission at the Ministry of Education on Thursday 26 January. Mr Rogers and Khun Bogie presented a cheque for over 126,000baht to Mr Chanwit Tubsuphan (Secretary-General of the Office of the Private Education Commission (Opec) at the Ministry of Education).

The money will be used to help the thousands of teachers and pupils whose homes were damaged by last year?s floods and who are still suffering from the consequences. Staff at both campuses separately raised 124,145baht to help our own ancillary whose homes were flooded. A grand total of just over 250,000 baht ? a fantastic effort! Once again, a huge thank you to all of you who donated money or food for the Flood Relief Programme.

Bromsgrove International School, Thailand is delighted to announce that one of its students has been given an unconditional offer to study Mathematics at Oxford University. Kyung Jae Cho (Danny) joined the school in 2007 and worked hard to achieve a solid collection of IGCSE’s. As his English continued to improve, he was able to excel in Years 12 and 13 and was awarded a Top in Thailand? award for Mathematics at the end of Year 12. During his final year at the school, he further developed and achieved Advanced level grades of A , A* and A* in Mathematics, Further Mathematics and Physics. Mr Challoner, the Headmaster, commented on the excellent achievement this is for Danny and all the teaching staff who helped him to develop. ?Danny proves that you can join this school with #relatively weak English skills and then achieve at the very highest level. We are very proud of him and wish him well.
