We had a very busy and successful week in sport and enrichment last week with the TISAC football competition now in full swing. On Saturday, we hosted a senior boys TISAC football tournament, with six schools travelling from around Bangkok to compete, and Bromsgrove managed a pleasing 3rd place. On Sunday, we hosted the International Schools Junior Golf Tournament, held at Windsor Park. This was a great event, with over 70 golfers competing. Bromsgrove managed an impressive second in the team event and also managed 2 first places a second and a third place in the individual competitions. The highlight of the week of course, was the Charity Fun Run on Thursday, which saw some great performances and above all, a very positive participation rate. Thank you to everyone involved for your hard work and to everyone who participated, for making it such a successful event.

ในช่วงสัปดาห์ที่ผ่านมาฝ่ายกีฬาและสันทนาการมีกิจกรรมเกิดขึ้นมากมาย และประสบผลสำเร็จอย่างมากกับการแข่งขันฟุตบอล TISAC ที่การแข่งขันกำลังดำเนินไปอย่างเข้มข้น เมื่อวันเสาร์ที่ผ่านมาบรอมส์โกรฟได้เป็นเจ้าภาพจัดการแข่งขันกีฬาฟุตบอลชาย TISAC ระดับชั้นมัธยมปลาย โดยมีโรงเรียนนานาชาติ 6 โรงเรียนจากกรุงเทพเข้าร่วมแข่งขัน และบรอมส์โกรฟสามารถคว้าที่ 3 มาครองได้ ในวันอาทิตย์บรอมส์โกรฟเป็นเจ้าภาพจัดการแข่งขันกอล์ฟเยาวชนระหว่างโรงเรียนนานาขาติที่สนามกอล์ฟ วินด์เซอร์ ปาร์ค แอนด์ กอล์ฟ คลับ การแข่งขันผ่านไปด้วยดีโดยมีนักกอล์ฟเยาวชนกว่า 70 คนเข้าร่วม ตัวแทนนักกอล์ฟของโรงเรียนทำผลงานได้น่าประใจด้วยการได้ที่ 2 ในประเภททีม นอกจากนี้ในประเภทเดี่ยวนักกอล์ฟโรงเรียนยังสามารถคว้าอันดับหนึ่งถึงสองคน อันดับสอง และอันดับสามอีกประเภทละหนึ่งคน ส่วนกิจกรรมที่เป็นสีสันของสัปดาห์ที่ผ่านมาคงหนีไม่พ้น กิจกรรมวิ่งการกุศลประจำปีของโรงเรียนเมื่อวันพฤหัส ผมได้เห็นนักวิ่งแจ้งเกิดมากมาย แต่สิ่งสำคัญที่สุดคือการได้เห็นผู้เข้าร่วมกิจกรรมเป็นจำนวนมาก ผมขอขอบคุณฝ่ายจัดงานที่ร่วมแรงร่วมใจกันจัดงานนี้ และขอขอบคุณทุกคนที่เข้าร่วมกิจกรรมทำให้งานนี้ประสบความเร็จลุล่วงไปได้ด้วยดี

The 2016 Bromsgrove Fun Run

I would like to share with you all two special events which have taken place since the last updates. Firstly, it was a pleasure and an honour to hand over to our Rotary International District Governor our first Polio Points donation of this academic year. Thanks to Bromsgrove students, from Pre-Nursery to Year 13, we donated a massive THB102,138 to Rotary’s Polio Plus campaign – which will now be doubled by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation! More recently, we were fortunate to host, last week, a visit by a delegation of over 50 Korean educators, who were eager to learn what makes Bromsgrove’s pastoral care so impressive. I felt very lucky to be able to share with them the many ways in which the Korean education system could learn from what we do here at Bromsgrove, in our efforts to maximise the wellbeing of every single student.

ผมขอแบ่งปันสองเหตุการณ์สำคัญที่เกิดขึ้นหลังจากจดหมายครั้งก่อน ประการแรกคือ ทางโรงเรียนรู้สึกยินดีและเป็นเกียรติอย่างยิ่งที่ได้มอบเงินบริจากโปลิโอพอยต์ประจำภาคเรียนที่ 1 จำนวน 102,138 บาทให้แก่นายกสโมสรโรตารี่นานาชาติ ขอบคุณนักเรียนบรอมส์โกรฟทุกคน ตั้งแต่ระดับอนุบาลถึงชั้นปีที่ 13 ที่ร่วมกับบริจากในโครงการโปลิโอพอยต์เพื่อสโมสรโรตารี่ ซึ่งเงินจำนวนดังกล่าวจะเพิ่มเป็นสองเท่าโดยมูลนิธิบิลและเมลินดา เกตส์! ประการที่สองคือ เมื่อสัปดาห์ที่ผ่านมา ทางโรงเรียนมีโอกาสเป็นเจ้าภาพต้อนรับคณะตัวแทนด้านการศึกษาจากประเทศเกาหลีจำนวนกว่า 50 ท่าน ซึ่งมีความกระตือรือร้นที่จะศึกษาการบริหารที่ประสบผลสำเร็จของฝ่ายปกครองโรงเรียนของเรา ผมรู้สึกโชคดีที่ได้มีโอกาสแบ่งปันวิธีการบริหารงานต่างๆ ซึ่งระบบการศึกษาของเกาหลีสามารถเรียนรู้วิธีการในการเพิ่มคุณภาพชีวิต ของนักเรียนทุกคนของเรา

The delegation of Korean educators here to learn about our pastoral care

Congratulations to the Year 5 winners of the Primary Lip Synch competition. We wish them luck next week, when they will be performing in the Secondary assembly. Celebration was in the air all week last week as the annual fun run took place on Friday. Our Primary children showed real determination and everyone managed to complete their race. I was particularly impressed with Aaliyah and Amber (Year 5), who finished the race first, beating even our most athletic Year 6 boys! Next week is our Chinese and Korean New Year celebration, and our children who have opted to study Chinese and Korean have been working hard to create a spectacular show. Come along on Monday morning and celebrate with us.

ขอแสดงความยินดีกับนักเรียนชั้นปีที่ 5 ผู้ชนะการแข่งขันลิปซิงค์ระดับประถมศึกษา และขอให้โชคดีในการแข่งขันรอบในสัปดาห์หน้าระหว่างการประชุมนักเรียนระดับมัธยมศึกษา ส่วนบรรยากาศของงานวิ่งการกุศลประจำปี Fun Run ซึ่งจัดขึ้นในวันศุกร์ที่ผ่านมานั้นเต็มไปด้วยความสนุกสนาน นักเรียนระดับประถมศึกษาของเราได้แสดงให้เห็นถึงความมุ่งมั่นและทุกคนสามารถวิ่งได้ครบระยะทางที่กำหนดไว้ ดิฉันประทับใจเป็นพิเศษกับอาลีย่าห์และแอมเบอร์ (นักเรียนชั้นปีที่ 5) ซึ่งชนะเลิศและเข้าเส้นชัยก่อน นักกีฬาชายชั้นปีที่ 6 สัปดาห์หน้าจะเป็นกิจกรรมงานฉลองวันขึ้นปีใหม่ของชาวจีนและชาวเกาหลี นักเรียนที่เรียนวิชาภาษาจีนและภาษาเกาหลีกำลังฝึกซ้อมอย่างแข็งขันเพื่อการแสดงโชว์ในวันงาน หวังว่าท่านผู้ปกครองจะสามารถมาร่วมงานดังกล่าวได้นะคะ

Primary Lip Synch winners

On Sunday 31 January, Bromsgrove hosted the 2016 International School Junior Golf Tournament at Windsor Park Golf Club.
It was a fabulous event with over 70 junior golfers competing in four different classes. On a great course and with a perfect day for golf, the standard of play was extremely high with fierce competition between the American School Bangkok, Harrow International School Bangkok and ourselves.
In the team event Bromsgrove impressed, finishing as runners up to ASB, with strong showings from Peng, Bhoom, Dream and Eng, ably backed up by Ja, Jump and Jazzy of Year 6, entering her first golf tournament.
In the individual competitions, Jazzy came in in third place in the class D girls competition, Bhoom and Dream took out 2nd and 3rd place respectively in the B class of golfers and in the A class Peng won the event for Bromsgrove. Peng also picked up the award for the lowest gross score, having shot a round of 71; (-1) under par.
A huge thank you must go to the parents and sponsors for their support and to the school golf coordinator, Mr Tak.

Tuesday 2nd February saw BIST welcome a representative from the University of the Arts London (UAL), the top ranked British institution for art related courses. Students were not only informed about possible pathways into creative industries but also had the chance to get feedback about their own personal portfolios of work as Thames is doing in this picture.

On Monday 25th January at 2:45pm BIST will host Dr Clemens Martin Kiecker PhD, a neuroscientist from King’s College London who will deliver an undergraduate style lesson. This is an excellent opportunity for students in Years 11, 12 and 13 to experience what it might be like to attend a university that is consistently ranked in the World Top 20 as well as to be interested and inspired by some cutting edge science.

Profile

A big welcome back to all of our returning boarders this term. With the majority of students going back home for the break and some even traveling to new and exciting places over the holidays, there has been much catching up to do between students and staff. This term we are having a focus on communication and tweaking our programme in boarding so that we can implement changes carefully and continue to make boarding outstanding. I have been away over the holidays at the UK Annual Boarding Conference, which was very useful and has raised many ideas of ways in which we can improve our service here at BIST. As always, if the parents and students have any ideas on ways in which we can improve, we are always happy to listen and take ideas on board. Since our return, we have been on trips to Mega Bangna and Dreamworld, both of which were well attended and fun had by all. For now, the Year 11, 12 and 13 students are focusing on their mock exams, which will be starting soon, and we all wish them the best of luck. Extra study help is always available and we are also ensuring that students are taking a break from work so that they can keep both mentally and physically healthy. This week we will be updating the Trip list for Term 2 as we have a Headmaster’s trip and and a Boarders choice weekend that will be planned out and mapped ,plus another all-boarder trip due to bug spraying this term.
