The students have come back refreshed after a well-needed rest. I am pleased to announce that we now have positions of middle-prefects, so that those in year 8 can take on a position of responsibility within the house. In the kitchens, food has really changed over the last few weeks, with country theme evenings on Thursday, more input from the students and a wider variety of options in the salad bar that have been very popular. This week we are collecting feedback from the students on the rewards and sanctions in the house. Next week, Ms Kharaz will be offering meditational yoga to the boarders on a Tuesday evening, which will really help relieve the stress of exams and the pressures of growing up. This half term, we wish a warm welcome to K. Un as Boys’ House Assistant and also Mr Goh as a resident from the BDST department. Before the holidays, we had a big trip to the Rock Domain in Bang Na, with the excellent guidance of Mr Lee from the Maths department (pictured). Over the holidays we took delivery of an electric grand piano donated from the music department, so our media room is now replete with a 55 inch TV, a piano and a Playstation to ensure the students can relax and be entertained.

During the half term break, Miss Gemma Reeks and Mr Andrew Williams took a group of drama students to the FOBISIA Drama competition in Brunei; an absolute highlight of the year for the Performing Arts faculty. Following the half term break, our sports teams are straight back in action with the TISAC football leagues continuing for all 5 of our entered teams. The teams are all making the most of their training opportunities during ECA time and, for those interested, there are still spaces available in the sports academy. The next few weeks promise to continue to be very busy with a swimming gala here at school in March and one hosted by TISAC at Concordian for the Primary pupils and at St John’s for the KS3 students. Additionally, our U13 FOBISIA team is now in training ahead of the U13 games hosted by St Stephen’s later in March, and our Primary FOBISIA team will also be starting their preparations ahead of the Primary Games in May.

The busy half term finished with some fantastic events for all students, not least the wonderful Chinese New Year celebrations on both the EY and WP campuses, and also the entertaining Lip Sync competition, so ably won by a group of wannabe Taylor Swifts in Primary, with Taylor House stealing the show in Secondary. Meanwhile, we are all very busy preparing a number of very high profile and exciting events coming up in March: the TISAC ‘Battle of the Bands’ contest; the 2nd Annual FOBISIA Student Data Conference; the World Scholar’s Cup Regional Round; and the Secondary School Production of Blood Brothers. We hope, especially, that as many parents as possible will support us with this show, and I am confident that all these events will show off to the wider community what a hub of excellence BIST has now become. I am sure we will all need and deserve the Songkran break afterwards!

The TISAC ‘Battle of the Bands’ contest, the first of many exciting events planned for March at BIST
On February 4th, 2016; there was the PTA meeting (Parent Teacher Association Bromsgrove International School) at the Windsor park campus. I am very glad to inform you that many parents have volunteered to be the PTA committee from February 2016 to February 2017.
The PTA’s roles are
To assist with the planning and delivery of community events
To advise the school on possible marketing opportunities and strategies
To support and help the school with parental communication and parent education
To implement a fundraising strategy further to support school developments

Primary Principal
Welcome back to school after half-term break. I hope that everyone had a rest over the holidays: it was definitely deserved after a very busy last week of term! In Primary, the final week of term included Chinese New Year Celebrations at Windsor Park on the Monday and then Chinese New Year and Ring of Friendship at Early Years on the Tuesday. E-safety day at Windsor Park on the Tuesday was a great success, with children learning how to stay safe in an increasingly digital age. Year 1s had a fantastic day on Wednesday at their trip to Dreamworld and the Year 5s did is proud on Friday as they performed in the Secondary Finals of the Lip Sync Competition. The week was completed by our Fantastic Finish where children celebrated the half term’s worth of work with their families. After the half term break we are back and full of enthusiasm. This week is SuperStart week with lots of exciting activities to introduce the new topics.
The year 2s found mystery eggs as part of their SuperStart. They worked together
to use adventurous adjectives to describe the eggs as part of their topic lesson.
Bromsgrove was extremely fortunate this week to welcome Terry Butcher to the school.
Terry Butcher is an ex-professional and international footballer who played 77 times for England. He played at 3 FIFA World Cup Finals including captaining England to the semi-finals of the 1990 FIFA World Cup. Since retiring from football Terry has coached at 8 professional clubs in UK and Australia.
During his visit to Bromsgrove, Terry took the entire Year 9 group for a coaching session and later in the day lead a training session for some of our football academy students. Both groups of students were exposed to modified versions of drills that Terry has used with professional footballers and both groups were set the high standards that have made Terry such a success.
During the afternoon Terry worked with the Year 6 Reading stars group before taking them for a football training session. Later Terry posed for photos and signed autographs for students….and a handful of staff!
It was a great day during which the students thoroughly enjoyed learning from an international sporting superstar. A huge thanks must go to One Sport Media Management and Kevin Tarrant who have organised Terry’s visit to Thailand and kindly brought him to Bromsgrove.
Edward Haworth, also known as Clown Eckie, from the Gift of Happiness Foundation came to collect the items that our Early Years children and parents kindly donated. In addition to the donated items, we also raised THB 15,000 for the Gift of Happiness Foundation from selling baked goodies, sweets and handicrafts which the children made for our Chinese New Year & Ring of Friendship Day. As a token of gratitude, Clown Eckie will return in Term 3 to perform for our Early Years children. We look forward to your performance, Clown Eckie!
Summer Intensive English and Adventure camp. It is specifically designed for international students aged 9-15. We have been on trips to Asiatique, Dream World and rock climbing recently, and are still working on improving our trip programme to offer even more variety of trips. I am really proud of our boarders in particular for their participation in the fun run, with many bronze, silver and gold medals currently (and proudly) decorating the rooms in Windsor and Tudor house. Last week, I organised the Windsor vs Tudor Badminton competition. Winning the most games during the competition, Tudor House came out on top! The next competition between the houses will be go-karting, with which I hope the boys can bring the score back to one all.
