It has been a busy term here at Bromsgrove. The charity run on Friday was a great success and it was lovely to see families coming together to support such a worthwhile cause. Congratulations to Amber, our deputy Head girl, who was the fastest student in the whole of Primary. The highlight of my week was Wednesday when Primary and Early Year performed in the whole school Christmas Concert. I was so impressed with how professionally our students performed and even our 2-3 year old Pre-Nursery children had the confidence to do their Christmas dance in front an auditorium full of adults. I hope all our students and staff have a restful Christmas break, ready for another exciting learning filled term. Merry Christmas!

Term 2 ECAs

The students are in the process of choosing their ECAs for term 2. Primary students should complete and return their form to their classroom teacher by Friday 9 December. Please see the link below.

The Bromsgrove community are very proud of three of our Year 13 students, Henry, Ply and Jason, who have all been successful in securing interviews at the University of Cambridge for their undergraduate degrees next year. We wish them all the best for their upcoming interviews and will be thinking of them as they go through an immensely rigorous and selective process.cambridge

On Sunday 20 November, the BIST golf team entered the Shrewsbury Invitational golf tournament, held at the Lotus Valley Golf Country Club.

It was another very successful competition for Bromsgrove with our team being crowned Overall Team Event Winners. The team’s strength is based on some great individual performances with BIST students managing two individual winners, two individual runners up places and two third place finishes as shown below.

Winner Class A Boys – Poon, who managed a fantastic -7 round of 65.
Winner Class B Boys – Dream

Runner Up Class A Boys – Peng
Runner Up Class C Boys – Top

3rd Place Class A Girls – Ja
3rd Place Class B Girls – Estelle

On a sad note for the school, this was the last tournament in which Peng (Yr 12), will represent the Bromsgrove Golf Team. In January, Peng will head to the prestigious Mississippi State University, USA to take up a golf scholarship. We wish him every success in his future learning and in his continued progress on the golf course.

It gives me great pleasure to inform you that Bromsgrove International School Thailand has been shortlisted for the British International School Awards 2017.

This is a prestigious annual award comprising a number of categories and BIST entered for the ‘Teaching initiative of the Year’ category. The awards receive a huge amount of entries every year from outstanding international schools from all over the world.

For our entry we submitted the new Home Learning Initiative; our ELOs and ILTs that replaced our old homework model last academic year, to the committee judges for consideration.

As well as having a winner from each category, one of the category winners will also be crowned ‘International School of the Year 2017’ which is a huge accolade.

I am sure you will agree that this wonderful news is further evidence of the rapid progress we have made across all areas of the school over the past two years. Our exciting journey continues!

Regards

The last few weeks in boarding have been extremely busy but also lots of fun and very rewarding for our students. Community service has been a key focus driven by our student body and is something that we would like to congratulate the students on. Our first week back, saw the students choosing to make over 600 ribbons to hand out the school the next day. It was a fantastic team effort and the students should be proud of their achievements. On Saturday 12th November, some of our Year 11 and Sixth Form students volunteered at the Grand Palace after a suggestion from Head Girl. This weekend all of our full time boarders set up stalls and games at the Camillian Home Charity Event. They are now working on creating shoeboxes of gifts to give to the students that they met at Camillian Home instead of buying Christmas gifts for each other.

As well as community service, we have also spent the last few weeks improving students wellbeing. Every Tuesday, students now have the option to take part in a range of activities to improve their mindsets and wellbeing. From Basketball and Badminton, to time in the gym and yoga. After Christmas, this program will extend throughout the week as we see more and more activities being offered to our students, including a variety of Thursday Team Time competitions and weekend trips.

Last week, we had our first secondary Cross-Curricular Day of this academic year. This was led by the English faculty with support from Arts and Media and allowed students to work in mixed-age groups to report breaking news stories, filming and producing a final programme, which led to the top three being showcased in the auditorium at the end of the day. The project-based learning day was a resounding success with students engaged and enjoying the learning, as well as developing numerous new skills! The stories ranged from a freak weather hitting Bangkok to Dr Moore being kidnapped and taken to an undisclosed location – no student could fail to be inspired when presented with these starting points! Thank you to all the teachers and students for immersing themselves in the day – the creativity and humour displayed was outstanding. A special thank you to all the staff who helped with the organisation of the day – it wouldn’t have been possible without your enthusiasm and dedication to the project. I now cannot wait for the next cross-curricular days later in the academic year from the Maths and Science faculties!

Student voice in Primary have been very busy this term. Our Eco warriors have organised for recycling bins to be bought for the school, whilst the Learning committee have taken over library inductions for Primary students and have sought the views of the student body in preparation for their book buying trip on Thursday. The Wellbeing committee have been organising sports games and competitions at lunch time so every student has a place to go and make friends with children from other year groups. In addition, they have created an amazing Pokemon game that incorporates the children and staff all with their own powers. The student exec have coordinated our weekly assembly, prepared a talk for our open afternoon and listened to the opinions of their peers, getting a second table tennis table for the atrium. This came at the perfect time as our House captains are organising our annual House table tennis competition alongside our shoebox gift scheme for the children of Chameleon House. Finally, all of our student leaders from Year 5 and 6 are looking forward to meeting d’Arcy Lunn this Friday to share what they have done to change their world for the better.

The Football Academy, led by Chelsea Football Club soccer school, proved very popular with the numbers and age range of students increasing in its second week.

The second session was thoroughly enjoyable with the coaches continuing to focus on the fundamentals of individual body position when attacking and defending: a key component to learning the game.

With all that is going on over the next few weeks, there is now only 1 Chelsea session left before the Christmas break. This will take place on 28 November. The academy will start again on Monday 16 January.

If your child is interested, there are still places available. Please contact the school or finance office for further information.
