Today our summer camp ventured to sunny Pattaya! We arrived at Royal Varuna Yacht Club in the late morning and after a brief safety briefing, we changed into our best swim wear.

As well as sailing, the yacht club was kind enough to put on a masterclass of activities for us. Our students enjoyed taking the club’s junior sail boats out on to the water. Our student also had full access to the club’s spacious pool, their volleyball area and the club’s private beach.

As well as the sporting activities, our students were able to take advantage of the club’s location by participating in a seashell painting workshop and a giant game of Twister on the beach.

We hope that today’s trip has given our students some valuable relaxation time. Furthermore we hope that they come to appreciate the natural beauty that is so easily available within Thailand.

Our 3rd week summer camp topic was ‘Space’. The children enjoyed immersing themselves in everything about space and embarked upon lots of engaging activities such as: making rockets, constructing spaceships and creating their own freaky aliens. We finished the week off with an educational trip to the Children’s Discovery Centre. It was a really busy day but the children had lots of fun throughout and were able to take part in lots of fun-filled activities.

In today’s lessons, our summer camp students learned all about clothes with Mr. Barker. They practiced the various vocabulary associated with clothes in both spoken and written forms.

In Mr James’ class our students spent the afternoon focusing on descriptives, especially those associated with animals. Our students played a variety of games as well as spent time talking in front of the class, practicing their spoken English.

In Ms Rae’s class, our students spent time preparing themselves for tomorrow’s trips by learning the various vocabulary to do with holidays and specifically the beach. We played a variety of team games and practiced our written English by making marine animal fact files.
In the afternoon, our students will be able to practice more sport with Mr. Tak. Our students will be able to practice t-ball or football on our large outdoor field, or badminton in our spacious sports hall.

Later in the evening, Mr. Barnes and the boarding team have planned a team building activity. Here our boarders will be given a chance to lead and develop their team working skills.

On 23rd July 2018, our students learned about parts of speech in Mr James’ class. Our students played games, whilst practising verbs and adjectives related to parts of speech. Later, our students made funny stories together in teams using parts of speech for dramatic effect.

In Mr Barker’s class, our students learned all about geography and the vocabulary involved with describing various locations. Later they used this knowledge to write postcards describing their weekend trips.

In Ms Rae’s class our students learned all about describing food! Later they learned about restaurants, ordering food, as well as verbs for cooking.

In the afternoon, our games of football and t-ball were unfortunately interrupted by rain. So instead we enjoyed a round of dodgeball in our sports hall.

The feedback from our students for their last English trivia night in the theatre was so good, that we decided to put it on again.

On 22nd July 2018 (Thai Cultural Trip : Thai Farming Experience for boarding camp students)

Today our summer camp students travelled to Ratchaburi, a Thai province next to Myanmar. Here we visited Coro Field Farm, where the students were able to pick and decorate their own plants to take home as a memory of Thailand. We also expressed our creative side by painting our own reusable shopping bags. Hopefully this will encourage our students to think about using less plastic bags and consider their environment when they return home.

After a quick lunch and ice cream we departed for a local attraction – The Scenery Vintage Farm for Scenery Sheep and Dog Show. Here we got to see something completely unique – a show involving trained sheep, dogs and even a duck! Afterwards our students were able to appreciate the vast Thai countryside by feeding the local sheep herd, walking around the fields, eating sheep-milk ice cream and trying other fair activities.

After a brief stop at a local noodle restaurant, we returned to our boarding house, where our students were able to enjoy some well deserved rest.

We hope that our students gained a further appreciation of nature and the outdoors on their second weekend trip and bring this appreciation back home with them.

On 20th July 2018

The kids learned about body parts by playing Kung fu in the sports hall. This was an entertaining and useful method of learning for the kids. they had so much fun during the class. Moreover, the students participated in Thai Culture activity, cooking PadThai and Kanom Krok. These two dishes represented Thai-ness to our international kids. The class was taught by our teachers from Thai department, Miss Ann and Miss June. This time, the children did not just enjoy the delicious Thai food, but they actually cooked it themselves. This class was fascinating and everyone loved it!

On 21st July 2018 (Thai Cultural Trip : Life Along The River for boarding camp students)

Today our Summer Camp ventured into a province to the west of Bangkok – Samut Songkhram. There we visited a seaside resort famous for the neighbouring mangrove forests and aquaculture farms.

The students travelled by long tail boat to a nearby mangrove, where they planted their own mangrove trees. This was a thorough challenge and tested our team working skills as we had to work together not to get stuck in knee deep mud. Throughout our boat trip and whilst planting trees, we saw crab-eating macaques along the water passages off the mangrove forest.

The students experienced fresh, clean air and nature on their second boat trip to a nearby oyster-farm. We learned about the local communities that call Samut Songkhram their home and their aqua-farming methods. The students got to see how oysters are grown at a local farm as well as get to touch oysters at various stages of harvest.

Upon returning and after a quick shower, we had lunch and departed for the famous Amphawa Floating Market. There the students got to shop around and see some of the local culture.

We hope that our students will be able to use today’s experience to appreciate nature and it’s interconnectivity with our modern life.

Please enjoy the photos of our daily activities. We hope you enjoy seeing these memories in real time. In addition, after our summer camp concludes, these photos and many more will be available on our school’s website for you viewing pleasure.

After school, our boarding students accepted a new challenge: the Spaghetti Tower Challenge. Each group of students were provided with 50 spaghetti noodles, tape, and four marshmallows. The goal of this game was to build a tower and make it as tall as possible, and the winning team was awarded a special prize! The objective of this challenge was to help students enhance their planning, decision making, and problem solving skills. Under the supervision of our boarding staff, students overcame the obstacles and worked together to solve their challenging problems. It was very impressive how everyone on each team gave such an amazing effort and showed commitment during this challenge.

Wednesday was the first trip of Bromsgrove’s 2018 Summer Camp. The students played and competed in a Treasure Hunt activity in Bangkok’s Old Town. This activity was organized by an adventure company called GoSnoop, and it allowed students to think outside of the box, build character, and experience Thai culture in a historic district. The kids were separated into groups and worked as teams to achieve their mission, finding the missing family. The kids followed the guidelines and searched for clues at different locations. On the way, the students did not only experience traditional Thai culture, but they also visited famous Thai landmarks such as Golden Mountain temple. After the journey, the students had lunch at a hotel in the Old Town. At night, some students watched a movie in Tudor House. All of them enjoyed the first trip of their summer camp!
