Congratulations to Yuuto in Reception who has won the 1st place in the “U7 Phuket Ice Hockey Tournament 2018”. He is also the youngest boy in the team. Well done Yuuto!

In Science this week, the Year 2 children were very excited by the visit of Miss Lowry, the Head of Secondary Science, who came to talk to the children about microbes and germs. She set up an investigation to collect microbes from different places around the classroom and explained to the children that these tiny organisms are invisible to the eye. The children used cotton buds to swab things such as; pencils, door handles, shoes, windows and carpets. They then wiped these swabs onto a special microbe dish.

Miss Lowry also demonstrated to the children how to wash their hands properly and the importance of washing thoroughly to ensure that your hands are germ free.

Next week, the children will continue this investigation when they go up to the Secondary Science laboratories to see what has happened to their microbe dish.

Nama in Year 5 has been very busy over the summer holidays, and has been awarded not 1…..not 2…..not 3……but 7 medals for sharing her talents in a number of different arenas. Nama has been competing in gymnastics, ice-skating and wushu achieving a number of gold and silver medals. Well done to Nama! We are very proud of all her achievements and hard work.

We would like to congratulate the Bromsgrove International School Thailand (BIST) Class of 2018 for their university destinations. We wish them all the best in the future.

*Some students have taken a gap year or have not yet decided on their destination

It has been a fantastic first week in boarding this year and we are excited to welcome a large number of boarding students to Bromsgrove. It has been wonderful to see our students settling into boarding life and having fun with their new friends. There are now over 135 boarding students and we are looking forward to supporting each and every one of them this year.

In addition to our students we have some new members of our boarding team who are already busy learning students names and the routines of life at Bromsgrove. We hope that over the next few weeks our boarders will get to know them and spend time with them having fun after school and at the weekend.

We have been busy planning our trips and activities for this term and are excited for the upcoming weekends. This week most full boarders are heading to Mega Bang Na this weekend to top up on any essentials they need for the term adn to spend some time shopping and relaxing with their friends. Coming soon we have trips to Laser Tag, Virtual Reality, Bounce and a Community Service trip.

Please check our facebook page (BIST Boarding) for upcoming trips and to follow what we have all been up to.

Ms Georgina Drew
Head of Boarding

Our administrative team has overseen a number of campus improvements over the summer holiday and has also been working on the student ID cards and  the new fees settlement processes. We have been incredibly busy supporting the Headmaster and the academic team in getting the two campuses ready for the start of this academic year 2018/19.

At the Early years campus, we have undertaken a number of improvements including classroom, flooring, additional covered walkways and a wonderful new playground area (including a pirate ship!). We are also in the process of reviewing our parking and drop off facilities following feedback from a number of EY parents over the course of last academic year.

At the Windsor Park campus, there have been a number of campus improvement projects over the summer break including: putting windows along the corridor walls to transform our Secondary learning spaces; refurbishment of the swimming pool; installing new basketball hoops in the Sports Hall; Boarding house refurbishments and improvements; installing windows in the ground floor of the Performing Arts Centre; installing wheelchair access ramps; improving the parking facilities and also refurbishing the Secondary classrooms with new flooring, new tables and new chairs. Our Boarding Houses have been renovated to provide enough space to accommodate the increasing number of Boarders this year. Lastly, the Hardley Arts Studio is also in the process of having its second floor built, with completion expected by the end of January 2019.

In addition to these campus improvements, we have also been working with our catering company to ensure the quality and healthiness of our food continues to improve across both campuses. Our students can now view the daily menu on display outside the dining hall on the WP campus each day to aid them in their food choices.

It has been a immensely positive first week of the academic year 2018/19 in the Secondary school at Bromsgrove as we have welcomed back our returning secondary students as well as welcoming our new students from other schools around the world. A special welcome to our new Year 7 who have had a very successful first week and I wish them all a very happy and fun-filled learning journey with us in Secondary.

We are looking forward to our ECA programme starting next Tuesday, with a huge variety of activities from which the students have chosen their preferences. I have already been impressed with the amount of Sixth Form students requesting to lead or support specific ECAs such as Debating, The BIST Newspaper and Smile Club. The students are demonstrating a clear passion for developing their leadership skills and I am proud of them for being so proactive!

There are many events coming up over the next half term, both in and outside of school. Dependent on their year group and also the subjects which they are studying, there are numerous opportunities for students such as: representing the school if selected as a member of a school Sports Team, being part of the School Production, seeing a Live Theatre performance, attending an Oxford Union debating workshop and taking part in a Choral Day as well as trips to Pattaya for a beach and reef clean up, a Model United Nations conference, a Youths for SDG conference and an English trip to Singapore to see a Shakespeare play. Please do check into your Parent Portal to keep up to date with everything happening at school! Details of how to log on to Parent Portal can be obtained from the SIC.

Wishing everyone a successful and enjoyable half term!

Secondary Principal

We have had a wonderful start to the new academic year in Primary. We welcome back our existing families, and new, to the Bromsgrove community.

Over the summer we have been hard at work in school, and we have improved our Atrium learning space and adding a whole host of new Primary learning and play resources. The students were incredibly excited when they came back to school and saw everything we have done.

We have some new Primary teachers that have joined us from the UK this year and the Primary team goes from strength to strength. We have a huge amount planned for our students throughout this year and we can’t wait to share it all with our students. From new learning, themes, to new residentials we are continuously reviewing and improving on our already outstanding provision.

This term some of our highlights include:

  • Science Week
  • Thai cultural trips
  • Class assemblies to parents
  • Loy Krathong Celebrations
  • A visiting Theatre Company
  • Halloween activities
  • Fun Run
  • Christmas assembly
  • Christmas Fayre

We look forward to continued collaboration with our parents over the term and would love to hear from you if you have any suggestions and ideas for our Primary school.

Best wishes,

Christine Armstrong
Primary Principal

What a fantastic start to the academic year 2018/19. It has been lovely meeting all our new families and welcoming back our returning students, as well as welcoming our new teachers; Ms Jessica, Ms Katie and Ms Nakita to our Early Years community.

It always amazes me just how much the children grow and change during the summer holidays. It is great to see them all back in their new classrooms, full of energy and ready for the year ahead of them. The children are loving our new climbing frame and race track, along with all the other outdoor learning equipment. It is great to see so many of them now learning through play both inside and outside the classroom.

We have many exciting activities happening this term; Science week, Loy krathong, Fun Run, Christmas production and much more! To ensure you don’t miss out on any of the upcoming events, please do have a look at our school calendar that displays all key events happening across the whole school.

I am extremely excited by the year ahead of us and want to thank our parents for their continued support and commitment to our school.

Early Years Principal

We are delighted to share our ECA programme for Term 1 with you. We have a varied and inspiring range of ECAs on offer again and we hope your child will enjoy extending their learning through this programme. We are offering a breadth of opportunities across sport, academics, the arts and life skills. As Term 1 is a longer term we run a half-term programme of 7 weeks, and then the students will choose again. Please note there is no switching of ECAs in the 7 week programme.

As a reminder our programme works as follows:

Students attend three ECAs: Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday @ 14:30 – 15:30.

You have received an overview of the ECAs for Tuesday and Thursday. Please share this overview with your child(ren) and decide together which ECA options are of most interest. Please choose 4 choices for each day.

BIST will use these choices to build the ECA programme: those that complete the form early will have more chance of getting into their first choice.

Sign-up Procedure:

Sign-up opens on Thursday 30 August @ 19:00 online and will remain open until Saturday morning @ 10:00. Please use the Google Form here.

Please note that if your google default settings are in Thai this could default to Thai on your mobile phone. If this happens and you require English please use the web link above or change your google settings on your phone.

If you do not complete the form in the time given please do not worry: we will talk to your child in school and help them to find ECAs of interest to them following the sign-up time.

I hope you enjoy choosing your ECAs and we look forward to the ECAs beginning in the second week of Term 1. If you have any questions about the ECAs please email me at carmstrong@bromsgrove.ac.th
