A fantastic result for the Bromsgrove senior boys away at Singapore International School. The boys played some fantastic basketball and won the match 46-30. They were led by team captain, Tim, and PE coach, Mr Dutson. Star performances from MJ and Karn helped secure the senior boys first victory of the season. Well done to all involved.

The U15 Girls’ Basketball team participated in a tournament on the 29th of September at Bangkok Prep . Our Bromsgrove girls played extremely well, progressed to the second round and eventually came 4th, following some very tough and well-fought matches. Congratulations to Punch, Teya, Cherry, Sakura, Mai Mai, Icecream, Sang Sang, and Idea for their hard work and determination.

On Wednesday 26 September 2018, Bromsgrove International School hosted a very successful TISAC Secondary Choral Day, featuring 180 students from eight schools across Bangkok.

During the morning, the students rehearsed in sectionals around the PAC, led by Music teachers from the visit schools. This gave the 70 Sopranos, 60 Altos and 50 Baritones the opportunity to warm up their voices, learn their separate parts and practice singing as a section of the choir.

After a break, the three sections were brought together on stage in the auditorium to rehearse as a full choir, directed by Mr Meddows-Taylor and accompanied by Ms Alice. They worked through the four pieces of music, developing a range of choral ensemble skills, such as listening to each other, following a conductor and maintaining up to five individual parts at a time.

In the afternoon the full choir performed a gala concert for an audience of students, staff, parents and guests. They opened the concert with a beautiful rendition of the Royal Anthem of Thailand in three-part harmony. School choirs from Regent’s, Traill and Bromsgrove then took centre stage performing Shosholoza, Thriller and Fly Me To The Moon respectively.

The final section of the concert featured the full choir, directed by Mr Meddows-Taylor, singing three songs chosen to celebrate the International Day of Peace on Friday 21 September. Firstly, John Lennon painted a picture of what it would be like to live in a world joined together in peace through a beautiful arrangement of his best-selling single, Imagine. The next song was an African-American spiritual called Peace Like A River, which uses water as a simile to describe peace, joy and love. The final song of the concert was based on the West African proverb: “It takes a whole village to raise our children”. Joan Szymko’s It Takes A Village embodies this proverb for choir, with the four vocal rhythms taking on their own character and function, creating the unique energy and movement of our “village” when brought together.

All 180 students worked incredibly hard to out together this programme of music in just one day and should be very proud of this achievement and their performance. We would like to say a huge thank you to all of the Music teachers and Bromsgrove staff for organising and running this wonderfully enriching TISAC event.

On Monday 24th of September, we celebrated the Mid-Autumn Festival by making moon cakes. Students who study Chinese from Year 4 through to Year 11 got a chance to learn about the history of the festival and the process of making moon cakes; they even got to take some cakes home!

We celebrated International Science Week during 24-28 September 2018. Our soft play room became a sensory room where the children could explore the wonders of light and dark. We had our “Stay and Play” on Tuesday where children, parents, and teachers enjoyed dressing up as mad Scientists and took part in science activities in their classrooms. To round off the week, we had our messy day on Thursday, where children took part in various science experiments and sensory activities. We look forward to seeing you at our next EY event! Year 3 Parrots have loved learning about dinosaurs in all areas of the curriculum. The children have already learnt about the four different types of fossils and wrote explanations for how dinosaur body fossils are formed.

This week, they used this knowledge to create their own fossil artwork. They began by choosing which dinosaur they wanted to create and sketching it out in pencil. The children then used cotton buds as the bones to create the dinosaur skeletons.

Dinosaur fossils have also linked to our science work where the children have been learning about the role of the skeleton. They have labelled the main bones in the human body and compared animal skeletons to dinosaur skeletons.

The children have shown real curiosity about dinosaurs and can’t wait to learn more!

On Friday 21 September, all secondary students took part in the annual science challenge to win points for their house. Challenges ranged from matching animals and their excrement to building the tallest towers with only spaghetti and marshmallows!

On Saturday 22nd September, thirteen of our senior Literature and Theatre Studies students, accompanied by Mr Owens and Ms Meacham, jetted off to Singapore to see a fantastic production by the British company ‘Shakespeare’s Globe’. The Saturday night play was a special event where the audience got to choose which play to watch from a choice of three and the cast then leapt straight into performing it. We saw ‘The Taming of the Shrew’ which was both very funny and often disturbing; a truly excellent production.
Since we were in Singapore, we did some sightseeing, visiting the Garden in the Bay, and on Sunday went for a day of fun at Universal Studios. A brilliant weekend was had by all and it was great to see students really enjoying Shakespeare.

On Wednesday 26 September 2018, Bromsgrove will be hosting this year’s TISAC Secondary Choral Day. 180 students from schools across Bangkok will join together in a large choir to learn and perform a programme to celebrate International Peace Day.

All parents, guardians and friends are invited to the 30-minute gala concert in the Oriental Siam PAC, which will start at 14:00. Refreshments will be served in the PAC Foyer from 13:30. We look forward to welcoming you to this unique concert!

Science week students had the opportunity to take some ‘science selfies’ in the lab with Miss Lowry whilst others made their very own lava lamps as part of the “Science in the ’60’s” session.  We also had a guest speaker, Dr Lorraine Pinnington, from the University of Nottingham who came to talk to our year 11’s – 13’s who are interested in applying for medicine and biology related courses at university. What a super week we have had.
