Benjamin Franklin once said “Tell me and I forget. Teach me and I remember. Involve me and I learn” and if we take this to be true, then there was certainly a lot of learning taking place in the English classrooms this week. Students in Key Stages 3-5 had the chance to act, debate, decode texts, compete in grammar games and write collective stories. All of these learning experiences got students involved not only intellectually, but physically as they moved around the classrooms to complete different English activities. Differentiated tasks and mixed ability groups ensured that each student had their chance to shine. Activities of this nature serve as a mere snapshot of what students can expect to experience as the English faculty continues to promote the students’ mastery of Spelling, Punctuation, and Grammar (SPAG) this year.

On Thursday 3rd October we welcomed Khun Peter into school to tell us about his studies in the UK. Peter is currently studying for his PHD at Nottingham University, and he spoke to student’s from Years 10 to 13 about how to achieve your aspirations. As Peter is the brother of our Head Boy, Rapee we hope he will return to school again in the future to tell us more about his studies and how to manage your time as a busy undergraduate.

On Tuesday, Year 2 had a special Wow Day to launch learning in their new history topic, The Great Fire of London, as part of their theme this term: LONDON. The day was packed full of fun activities including making their own Tudor-style houses and completing a bucket challenge where the children had to fill their bucket with water from the ‘river’ and pass it along a line to put out an imaginary fire. The day ended with baking our own bread, just like the bakers did in Pudding Lane bakery!

Today we welcomed Ms Rachel Scannell, Assistant Head from Bromsgrove School, UK to both our Early Years and Windsor Park campus, where she met with Dr Moore and members of the School Leadership Team. During her visit Ms Scannell commented on how much both campuses have changed since her last visit, with both the EY covered playground and our WP Sixth Form centre being highlights of her two campus tours.

On Wednesday 25 September, The U11 Boys’ opened their Basketball season with a tightly contested game, away against St Andrews Dusit. BIST were leading 8 – 6 going into the final quarter of the game, only for the tide to turn and St Andrews produced a string of nine baskets, leaving BIST with an 8 – 15 loss. Mr Dutson was pleased with the team work and determination demonstrated by the boys on their first outing of the season, which proved to be a steep learning curve for all involved.

On Friday 27 September we were delighted to join together as a community to formally open our new outdoor learning and play facility at our Bromsgrove Early Years Campus. After three months of construction, our young Early Years students were delighted to enjoy the 21st century outdoor learning space and play safely under our wonderful UV50 sun protection cover, designed and constructed by “ShadeAsia”.
Friends, families, and children came together for our formal opening which was lead by Dr. Dan Moore (Headmaster and CEO) and Khun Prasit Pawakranond (Chairman of the Board of Governors). Our community would like to thank the board and investors for their continued support to ensure we provide truly outstanding facilities and learning opportunities to our youngest members of our Bromsgrove school community.

Primary STEAM week has been amazing and the students have been focused on the environment and recycling (hacking) single use plastics and other waste into new and usable items. It is good to know that our future generations are so mindful about the need to help save our planet. Well done Primary!

At Bromsgrove, we value and celebrate the “Bromsgrove Learner Profile” attributes in our mission to develop outstanding learners and successful global citizens.

At our Early Years campus, this week’s focused attribute is “Risk Taking”.

Our Bromsgrove students are encouraged to take risks every single day! Come and see our campus and I am sure that you would be in awe of our determined and adventurous little learners. This week at BIST our children have been busy taking risks to design and create things that move during STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Mathematics) week activities. Our youngest students took on a design challenge to get their car to travel the furthest, our Reception students took on the challenge of planning, designing and making amazing planes which might even fly and our oldest students have worked well as a team to construct rafts that were strong enough to set sail with them on board! Every time our young learners share their thoughts and ideas in English; every time they try to handle a new piece of equipment and every time they show determination to achieve something independently, our children are ‘taking risks’. Let’s all remember to encourage our children to ensure they achieve their true potential!

*Some students have taken a gap year or have not yet decided on their destination.

Our first Primary Coffee + Talk of the year was a great success. The focus was on how to help your child with reading at home, and we had a full-house of parents in attendance. We hope everyone found it useful and took away some practical tips. We look forward to our next Primary Coffee + Talk in October where the focus will be the benefits of establishing a healthy routine for your child, to help them maximise their learning in school.
