On 29 november, Mr. Camillo Pellegatta and Khun Alice Law, in cooperation with the Italian Embassy in Bangkok and Bromsgrove International School Thailand (BIST) bring together two of the most loved arts in Thailand—music and food—to organize a unique, grandeur event for a good cause, to support a charity initiative by the Camillians in Thailand. In occasion of the 500th Anniversary of the passing of Leonardo da Vinci, this year’s event is inspired by the life and thought of Leonardo (music by Puccini, Verdi, Mascagni performed by Fabio Armiliato, Chiara Giudice and Alberto Firrincieli together with Bromsgrove Choir) and the food by old recipes of the Renaissance created by Mandarin Oriental, Bangkok Executive Chef Dominique Bugnand. Part of the proceeds will go to the Home for the Aged Ratchasima.

Earlier in November we  saw the culmination of our house debate season. 96 students started out on this journey in late October and, over the course of 3 rounds, were whittled down to the last 16 who would debate on stage in front of the whole school.
The juniors went first, debating the motion, ‘That the internet should have a minimum age limit of 16’ and through some impassioned arguments this motion was defeated and Taylor house won.
Then came the seniors, a Taylor vs Taylor final as they had defeated everyone in the run up to the final. The motion here was ‘That human development only makes things worse’ and the senior debaters showed us all the errors of our ways as they passed this motion.
Well done to everyone who took part this year.

On 24 November 2019 BIST participated in the ‘Once Upon A Time in The Crystal’ storytelling event. Nama, Ava, Alex and Danial from Year 6 teamed up and competed in the story telling competition with the story written by themselves. The theme of their story was about ‘animal students’ who go boarding school. They made it to the ‘first runner-up’ position in the competition.

Pra-Chan Year 6 along with her friends from other schools also competed in the same competition and made it to the ‘second runner-up’ position in the competition. They told a story about ants and a grasshopper.

Our young vibrant storytellers certainly impressed the audience and judges with their wonderful tales. Their stories provided ‘food for thought’, reinforced moral values and were also humorous. Well done!

On Monday 2nd December, our IGCSE Year 11 Drama students performed a 15 minute extract of Carl Miller’s adaptation of ‘Emil and the Detectives’. The play is about a boy, Emil, on his way to the busy city of Berlin. Emil, a young boy from a small town, is robbed by a mysterious stranger on the train. Emil thinks he has lost everything but as he sets off to track down the thief he discovers that he’s not alone after all. The story is full of danger and surprises as Emil depends on his new detective friends to uncover the truth. This was a really vibrant and engaging story to present to an audience from across the Secondary School and our IGCSE students really provided some outstanding performances which will be submitted as IGCSE coursework in April 2020. A special mention has to go to Anna, who was determined to play her character, the mysterious Mr Snow, despite an injury, showing true determination and her ability to be a great team player! Well done everyone!

On Wednesday 4 December 2019, Bromsgrove International School Thailand hosted its annual charity run event – the “Bromsgrove Charity Fun Run 2019”. The purpose of this event was to fundraise to help the three charitable organisations that are chosen each year by our student body: SOS Children’s Villages Thailand, Soi Dog Foundation, and HDF Mercy Center.  This is the third year the school continues the support, enthusiasm, dedication and passion to these three organizations to ensure the success of the fantastic work that they each do. Charity work and doing things for others is very much part of Bromsgrove’s learner profile which represents 8 attributes that can help individuals become responsible members of local, national and global communities.

We ended the celebration of World Nursery Rhyme Week today at Bromsgrove Early Years with a fantastic dress up fun day. Students, teachers and staff dressed up as characters from famous nursery rhymes such as Incy Wincy Spider, Baa Baa Black Sheep, Five Little Ducks, Row Row Row Your Boat, Twinkle Twinkle Little Star and many more.

Nursery rhymes are fun! They help children with speech and language development and provide a fun introduction to musical awareness. Many rhymes have actions which help children understand the story that is being told as well as aiding gross motor development, numeracy skills and general confidence.

We encourage parents to incorporate Nursery rhymes into your child’s daily activities at home and during playdates, why not try to sing one rhyme a day with your child, coloring characters from nursery rhymes and read a bedtime story.
